Transportation Planning
The City of Lincolnton supports multimodal transportation that seeks to improve the pedestrian and bicycle transportation environment in addition to vehicular transportation improvements.
Vehicular transportation planning is coordinated in Lincolnton through the Gaston-Cleveland-Lincoln Metropolitan Planning Organization (GCLMPO), a multi-jurisdictional entity made up of 34 local governments, NCDOT, USDOT, and other providers of transportation services.
The City of Lincolnton Comprehensive Transportation Plan is a long-range, multi-modal transportation plan that covers highway, public transportation, rail, bicycle, and pedestrian transportation needs through 2035. You may link to the City’s Comprehensive Transportation Plan at this LINK
The City also works with the Carolina Thread Trail, a regional trail network that will ultimately reach 15 counties and more than 2.3 million people in the Charlotte region. The Marcia H. Cloninger Rail Trail, the sidewalk along East Main Street, and the trail at Ramsour’s Mill are all parts of the Carolina Thread Trail network.
